A new play is in the works based on Haruki Murakami’s novel Kafka on the Shore. Auditions are being conducted now in Japan.
The article I read on The Japan News didn’t state when the play would be released in Japan, but it’s set to be staged internationally in 2015! Countries mentioned for the international run include the U.S., England, Australia, Singapore, China, and France.
I’m excited about it, though I’m wary at the same time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a stage adaptation of a novel, so I’m not sure what to expect. The director of the play acknowledged that it’s been a difficult process for him to adapt it.
What do you guys think? Have you ever seen a play that was adapted from a novel, and how did it turn out?
